Lake Pend Oreille
In the big lake you can catch the tasty rocky mountain white fish in shallow water less than 50' deep. Large mouthed bass are found in the shallow waters around the mouth of the Pack River, about 8 miles east of Sandpoint on Highway 200. They are also found around Denton Slough, a few miles east of Hope Idaho. The lake is home to rainbow, bull and lake trout, perch, crappie, kokanee and kamloop among other species. Don't miss the fishing derbies held in the spring and in the fall on Lake Pend Oreille. Click here for our events page.
Priest Lake
The mackinaw or lake trout are the predominant species in Priest Lake. Deep trolling is good off Kalispell and Bartoo Islands where fisherman often fish 100' deep or more during the summer season. The east side of Cavanaugh Bay and the end of Pinto Point, near Indian Creek on the east side of the lake, are good for surface trolling. Bank fish the east side of Cavanaugh Bay and off Eastshore Drive.
Priest River
The upper part of Priest River is restricted to catch and release. The best fishing on Priest River is in winter and late spring to early summer. The river holds trout and mountain white fish.
Lake Cocolalla
This lake is a favorite spot for ice fishing. Open year round, you can catch channel catfish, brown, rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout. The lake is located 11 miles south of Sandpoint off Highway 95. Boat access is on the northeast side of the lake.
Round Lake
This is another ice fishing favorite and is open year round as a Family Fishing Waters. The rules are simplified here for fishing and are generally a 6 fish limit on trout, bass, walleye and pike with no length or tackle requirements. From Sandpoint go south on Highway 95 for 10 miles to Dufort road, then right approximately 2 miles to Round Lake State Park.
Kootenai and Moyie Rivers
You can fish the Kootenai River both above and below Bonners Ferry. The river holds bull, rainbow and cutthroat trout, and mountain white fish among other species. Why you are in the neighborhood, don't miss fishing in the scenic Moyie River north of Bonners Ferry, off Highway 2 east.
